daily reading 19.3 (Ezra 7:1–7)

5-days-a-week through Daniel and other late OT books in 2023

Our opening prayer for this Easter week:

Christ be my leader by night as by day;
Safe through the darkness for he is the way.
Gladly I follow, my future his care,
Darkness is daylight when Jesus is there.

Christ be my teacher in age as in youth,
Drifting or doubting for he is the truth.
Grant me to trust him; though shifting as sand,
Doubt cannot daunt me; in Jesus I stand.

Christ be my Savior in calm as in strife;
Death cannot hold me, for he is the life.
Nor darkness nor doubting nor sin and its stain
Can touch my salvation: with Jesus I reign. Amen.

Ezra 7:1–7

  • After these events (about 57 years after the temple was completed), during the reign of King Artaxerxes of Persia, Ezra—Seraiah's son, Azariah's son, Hilkiah's son, 2 Shallum's son, Zadok's son, Ahitub's son,  3 Amariah's son, Azariah's son, Meraioth's son, 4 Zerahiah's son, Uzzi's son, Bukki's son, 5 Abishua's son, Phinehas's son, Eleazar's son, the chief priest Aaron's son  6 — came up from Babylon.
  • He was a scribe skilled in the law of Moses, which the LORD, the God of Israel, had given.
  • The king had granted him everything he requested because the hand of the LORD his God was on him.
  •  7 Some of the Israelites, priests, Levites, singers, gatekeepers, and temple servants accompanied him to Jerusalem in the seventh year of King Artaxerxes.
Helpful notes on Ezra 7:1–7

For yourself pray:

  • That God gives you patience

For others pray:

  • That the hand of the Lord is on your pastor(s)

A psalm to listen to, as time allows:
