daily reading 20.5 (Haggai 2:10–14)
5-days-a-week through Daniel and other late OT books in 2023
Our opening prayer for this Easter week:
O Spirit of Life, O Spirit of God,
Revealer of God’s Holy Word,
You come to us from God’s great throne,
From God, the Father and the Son,
O Spirit of Life, O Spirit of God.
O Spirit of Life, O Spirit of God,
Enlighten us by that same word;
Unless your grace the power should give,
None can believe in Christ and live,
O Spirit of Life, O Spirit of God.
O Spirit of Life, O Spirit of God,
Increase our faith in our dear Lord;
Teach us to know the Father's love,
And his dear Son, who reigns above:
O Spirit of Life, O Spirit of God.
O Spirit of Life, O Spirit of God,
Lead us to love your sacred Word;
The holy flame of love impart,
That charity may warm each heart;
O Spirit of Life, O Spirit of God. Amen.
Haggai 2:10–14
- On the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of the LORD came to the prophet Haggai:
- 11 "This is what the LORD of Armies says: Ask the priests for a ruling.
- 12 If a man is carrying consecrated meat in the fold of his garment, and it touches bread, stew, wine, oil, or any other food, does it become holy?" The priests answered, "No."
- 13 Then Haggai asked, "If someone defiled by contact with a corpse touches any of these, does it become defiled?" The priests answered, "It becomes defiled."
- 14 Then Haggai replied, "So is this people, and so is this nation before me—this is the LORD's declaration. And so is every work of their hands; even what they offer there is defiled."
