daily reading 24.1 (Zechariah 4:7–14)

5-days-a-week through Daniel and other late OT books in 2023

Our opening prayer for this Easter week:

1      When peace like a river flows on in my way,
        when sorrows like sea billows roll–
        whatever my lot, you have taught me to say,
        it is well, it is well with my soul.
        Refrain: It is well with my soul,
        it is well, it is well with my soul.

2     Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
        let this blest assurance control,
        that Christ has regarded my helpless estate
        and has shed his own blood for my soul.
        Refrain: It is well with my soul,
        it is well, it is well with my soul.

3      My sin—oh, the bliss of this glorious thought—
        my sin, not in part, but the whole,
        is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more:
        praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!
        Refrain: It is well with my soul,
        it is well, it is well with my soul.

4      And, Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,
        the clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
        the trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend;
        even so, it is well with my soul.
        Refrain: It is well with my soul,
        it is well, it is well with my soul.

Zechariah 4:7–14

  • "What are you, O mighty mountain? Before Zerubbabel you will become level ground. Then he will bring out the capstone to shouts of ‘God bless it! God bless it!’”
  • Then the word of the LORD came to me: 9 "Zerubbabel's hands have laid the foundation of this house, and his hands will complete it. Then you will know that the LORD of Armies has sent me to you.
  • 10 For who despises the day of small things? These seven eyes of the LORD, which scan throughout the whole earth, will rejoice when they see the ceremonial stone in Zerubbabel's hand."
  • 11 I asked him, "What are the two olive trees on the right and left of the lampstand?"
  • 12 And I questioned him further, "What are the two streams of the olive trees, from which the golden oil is pouring through the two golden conduits?"
  • 13 Then he inquired of me, "Don't you know what these are?"
  • "No, my lord," I replied.
  • 14 "These are the two anointed ones," he said, "who stand by the Lord of the whole earth."
Helpful notes on Zechariah 4:7–14

For yourself pray:

  • That by his Word God gives you the Spirit of his Son in fuller measure

For others pray:
