daily reading 27.1 (Zechariah 8:18–23)

5-days-a-week through Daniel and other late OT books in 2023

Our opening prayer for this week:

All people that on earth do dwell,
Sing to the Lord with cheerful voice.
Him serve with fear, his praise forth tell;
Come ye before gim and rejoice.

The Lord, ye know, is God indeed;
Without our aid he did us make;
We are his folk, he doth us feed,
And for his sheep he doth us take.

O enter then his gates with praise;
Approach with joy his courts unto;
Praise, laud, and bless his name always,
For it is seemly so to do.

For why? the Lord our God is good;
His mercy is for ever sure;
His truth at all times firmly stood,
And shall from age to age endure.

To Father, Son and Holy Ghost,
The God whom heaven and earth adore,
From men and from the angel host
Be praise and glory evermore.
.

Zechariah 8:18–23

  • Then the word of the LORD of Armies came to me: 19 The LORD of Armies says this: "The fast of the fourth month, the fast of the fifth, the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth will become times of joy, gladness, and cheerful festivals for the house of Judah. Therefore, love truth and peace."
  • 20 The LORD of Armies says this: "Peoples will yet come, the residents of many cities; 21 the residents of one city will go to another, saying: Let's go at once to plead for the LORD's favor and to seek the LORD of Armies. I am also going.
  • 22 Many peoples and strong nations will come to seek the LORD of Armies in Jerusalem and to plead for the LORD's favor."
  • 23 The LORD of Armies says this: "In those days, ten men from nations of every language will grab the robe of a Jewish man tightly, urging: Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you."
Helpful notes on Zechariah 8:18–23

For yourself pray:

  • That we hold onto the corner of Jesus' robe like the woman who had been bleeding for 12 years (Matthew 9:20–22)

For others pray:

  • That for Jesus' sake people are attracted to your congregation like moths to a fire

A psalm to listen to, as time allows:
