daily reading 32.4 (Esther 3:5–7)

5-days-a-week through Daniel and other late OT books in 2023

Our opening prayer for this week:

Alleluia! sing to Jesus! His the scepter, His the throne.
Alleluia! His the triumph, His the victory alone.
Hark! the songs of peaceful Zion thunder like a mighty flood.
“Jesus out of every nation has redeemed us by His blood.”

Alleluia! bread of angels, Here on earth our food, our stay;
Alleluia! here the sinful flee to You from day to day:
Intercessor, Friend of sinners, Earth’s Redeemer, hear our plea,
Where the songs of all the sinless sweep across the crystal sea.

Alleluia! not as orphans are we left in sorrow now;
Alleluia! He is near us, faith believes, nor questions how;
Though the cloud from sight received Him when the forty days were o’er
Shall our hearts forget His promise, “I am with you evermore”? Amen.

Esther 3:5–7

  • When Haman saw that Mordecai was not bowing down or paying him homage, he was filled with rage. 6 And when he learned of Mordecai 's ethnic identity, it seemed repugnant to Haman to do away with Mordecai alone. He planned to destroy all of Mordecai's people, the Jews, throughout Ahasuerus's kingdom.
  • 7 In the first month, the month of Nisan, in King Ahasuerus's twelfth year, the pur—that is, the lot—was cast before Haman for each day in each month, and it fell on the twelfth month, the month Adar.
Helpful notes on Esther 3:5–7

For yourself pray:

  • That in Christ God keeps you from devious decisions

For others pray:

  • That God for the glory of his name spreads the kingdom of his Son in American Samoa

A psalm to listen to and ponder, as time allows:
