daily reading 32.5 (Esther 3:8–11)

5-days-a-week through Daniel and other late OT books in 2023

Our opening prayer for this week:

Alleluia! sing to Jesus! His the scepter, His the throne.
Alleluia! His the triumph, His the victory alone.
Hark! the songs of peaceful Zion thunder like a mighty flood.
“Jesus out of every nation has redeemed us by His blood.”

Alleluia! bread of angels, Here on earth our food, our stay;
Alleluia! here the sinful flee to You from day to day:
Intercessor, Friend of sinners, Earth’s Redeemer, hear our plea,
Where the songs of all the sinless sweep across the crystal sea.

Alleluia! not as orphans are we left in sorrow now;
Alleluia! He is near us, faith believes, nor questions how;
Though the cloud from sight received Him when the forty days were o’er
Shall our hearts forget His promise, “I am with you evermore”? Amen.

Esther 3:8–11

  • Then Haman informed King Ahasuerus, "There is one ethnic group, scattered throughout the peoples in every province of your kingdom, keeping themselves separate. Their laws are different from everyone else's and they do not obey the king's laws. It is not in the king's best interest to tolerate them.
  • 9 If the king approves, let an order be drawn up authorizing their destruction, and I will pay 375 tons of silver to the officials for deposit in the royal treasury."
  • 10 The king removed his signet ring from his finger and gave it to Haman son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the enemy of the Jewish people. 11 Then the king told Haman, "The money and people are given to you to do with as you see fit."
Helpful notes on Esther 3:8–11

For yourself pray:

  • That God gives you wisdom for when you should separate from others and when you should not

For others pray:

  • That in Christ God keeps your congregation and its leaders from greed and callousness

A psalm to listen to and ponder, as time allows:
