daily reading 36.2 (Esther 8:14–17)

5-days-a-week through Daniel and other late OT books in 2023

Our opening prayer for this week:

Lord of all nations, grant me grace
To love all people, every race,
And in each person help me view
My kindred loved, redeemed by you.

Break down the wall that would divide
Your children, Lord, on every side.
My neighbor’s good let me pursue;
Bind them to me and all to you.

Forgive me, Lord, where I have erred
By loveless act and thoughtless word.
Make me to see the wrong I do
Will hurt my neighbor, Lord, and you.

Give me your courage, Lord, to speak
Whenever strong oppress the weak.
And should I be a victim, too,
Help me forgive, remembering you.

With your own love may I be filled
And by your Holy Spirit willed,
That all I touch, whate’er I do,
May be divinely touched by youAmen.

Esther 8:14–17

  • The couriers rode out in haste on their royal horses at the king's urgent command. The law was also issued in the fortress of Susa.
  • 15 Mordecai went from the king's presence clothed in royal purple and white, with a great gold crown and a purple robe of fine linen. The city of Susa shouted and rejoiced, 16 and the Jews celebrated with gladness, joy, and honor.
  • 17 In every province and every city, wherever the king's command and his law reached, joy and rejoicing took place among the Jews. There was a celebration and a holiday. And many of the ethnic groups of the land professed themselves to be Jews because fear of the Jews had overcome them.
Helpful notes on Esther 8:14–17

For yourself pray:

  • That God gives you perfect joy when Jesus comes again

For others pray:

  • That God glorifies his holy name by spreading the kingdom of his Son in Fiji

A psalm to listen to and ponder, as time allows:
