daily reading 37.3 (Esther 9:29–32)
5-days-a-week through Daniel and other late OT books in 2023
Our opening prayer for this week:
Oh, bless the Lord, my soul!
Let all within me join
And aid my tongue to praise his name
Whose favors are divine.
Oh, bless the Lord, my soul,
Nor let his mercies lie
Forgotten in unthankfulness
And without praises die.
’Tis he forgives my sins;
’Tis he relieves my pain;
’Tis he that heals my sicknesses
And makes me young again.
He fills the poor with good;
He gives the sufferers rest;
The Lord has judgments for the proud
And justice for the oppressed.
His wondrous works and ways
He made my by Moses known,
But sent the world his truth and grace
By his beloved Son. Amen.
Esther 9:29–32
- Queen Esther, daughter of Abihail, along with Mordecai the Jew, wrote this second letter with full authority to confirm the letter about Purim.
- 30 He sent letters with assurances of peace and security to all the Jews who were in the 127 provinces of the kingdom of Ahasuerus, 31 in order to confirm these days of Purim at their proper time just as Mordecai the Jew and Esther the queen had established them and just as they had committed themselves and their descendants to the practices of fasting and lamentation.
- 32 So Esther's command confirmed these customs of Purim, which were then written into the record.
