daily reading 39.5 (Ezra 8:31–32)

5-days-a-week through Daniel and other late OT books in 2023

Our opening prayer for this week:

Forgive our sins, as we forgive,
You taught us, Lord, to pray;
But you alone can grant us grace
To live the words we say.

How can your pardon reach and bless
The unforgiving heart
That broods on wrongs and will not let
Old bitterness depart?

In blazing light your cross reveals
The truth we dimly knew:
How trifling others’ debts to us;
How great our debt to you!

Lord, cleanse the depths within our souls
And bid resentment cease;
Then, by your mercy reconciled,
Our lives will spread your peace. Amen.

Ezra 8:31–32

  • We set out from the Ahava River on the twelfth day of the first month to go to Jerusalem. We were strengthened by our God, and he kept us from the grasp of the enemy and from ambush along the way.
  • 32 So we arrived at Jerusalem and rested there for three days.
Helpful notes on Ezra 8:31–32

For yourself pray:

  • That for Jesus' sake God's hand is on you all the way to the new Jerusalem

For others pray:

  • That God gives safe travels to someone you know who is traveling

A psalm to listen to and ponder, as time allows:
