daily reading 45.3 (Nehemiah 4:19–23)

5-days-a-week through Daniel and other late OT books in 2023

Our opening prayer for this week:

Lord, keep us steadfast in your Word;
Curb those who by deceit or sword
Would seek to overthrow your Son
And to destroy all he has done.

Lord Jesus Christ, your power make known,
For you are Lord of lords alone;
Defend your Christendom that we
May sing your praise eternally.

O Comforter of priceless worth,
Send peace and unity on earth.
Support us in our final strife,
And lead us out of death to life. Amen.

Nehemiah 4:19–23

  • Then I said to the nobles, the officials, and the rest of the people: "The work is enormous and spread out, and we are separated far from one another along the wall.
  • 20 Wherever you hear the trumpet sound, rally to us there. Our God will fight for us!"
  • 21 So we continued the work, while half of the men were holding spears from daybreak until the stars came out.
  • 22 At that time, I also said to the people, "Let everyone and his servant spend the night inside Jerusalem, so that they can stand guard by night and work by day."
  • 23 And I, my brothers, my servants, and the men of the guard with me never took off our clothes. Each carried his weapon, even when washing.

For yourself pray:

  • That for Jesus' sake God gives you hope for the most enormous task before you

For others pray:

  • That as God fights for your congregation you too are active and watchful

A psalm to listen to and ponder, as time allows:
