daily reading 47.3 (Nehemiah 8:6–8)
5-days-a-week through Daniel and other late OT books in 2023
Our opening prayer for this week:
Crown him with many crowns, the Lamb upon his throne.
Hark! How the heavenly anthem drowns all music but its own.
Awake, my soul, and sing of him who died for thee,
And hail him as your matchless King through all eternity.
Crown him the virgin’s Son, the God incarnate born,
Whose arm those crimson trophies won which now his brow adorn;
Fruit of the mystic rose, as of that rose the stem;
The root from which all mercy flows, the Babe of Bethlehem.
Crown him the Son of God, before the worlds began,
And you who tread where he has trod, crown him the Son of Man;
Who every grief has known that wrings the human breast,
And takes and bears them for his own, that all in him may rest.
Crown him the Lord of life, who triumphed over the grave,
And rose victorious in the strife for those he came to save.
His glories now we sing, Who died, and rose on high,
Who died eternal life to bring, and lives that death may die. Amen.
Nehemiah 8:6–8
- Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God, and with their hands uplifted all the people said, "Amen, Amen!" Then they knelt low and worshiped the LORD with their faces to the ground.
- 7 Jeshua, Bani, Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, and Pelaiah, who were Levites, explained the law to the people as they stood in their places.
- 8 They read out of the book of the law of God, translating and giving the meaning so that the people could understand what was read.
For yourself pray:
- That God uses you to help someone else understand his word better
For others pray:
- That God gives your church's elders wisdom and love by his Spirit
A psalm to listen to and ponder, as time allows:
- Psalm 132 (YouTube, duet)
