daily reading 48.2 (Nehemiah 9:6–8)

5-days-a-week through Daniel and other late OT books in 2023

Our opening prayer for this week:

Crown him the Lord of love, behold his hands and side,
Those wounds, yet visible above, in beauty glorified.
No angel in the sky can fully bear that sight,
But downward bends his burning eye at mysteries so bright.

Crown him the Lord of Heaven, enthroned in worlds above,
Crown him the King to whom is given the wondrous name of Love.
Crown him with many crowns, as thrones before him fall;
Crown him, you kings, with many crowns, for he is King of all.

Crown him the Lord of lords, who over all must reign,
Who once on earth, the incarnate Word, for everyone was slain,
Now lives in realms of light, where saints with angels sing
Their songs before him day and night, their God, Redeemer, King.

Crown him the Lord of years, the Potentate of time,
Creator of the rolling spheres, ineffably sublime.
All hail, Redeemer, hail! For you have died for me;
Your praise and glory shall not fail throughout eternity. Amen.

Nehemiah 9:6–8

  • "You, LORD, are the only God. You created the heavens, the highest heavens with all their stars, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to all of them, and all the stars of heaven worship you.
  • 7 "You, the LORD, are the God who chose Abram and brought him out of Ur of the Chaldeans, and changed his name to Abraham.
  • 8 "You found his heart faithful in your sight, and made a covenant with him to give the land of the Canaanites, Hethites, Amorites, Perizzites, Jebusites, and Girgashites–to give it to his descendants. You have fulfilled your promise, for you are righteous."

For yourself pray:

  • That God wows you today with who he is and what he has done for you from the beginning of time

For others pray:

  • That God's eternal goodness in Christ fills your church with thanks

A psalm to listen to and ponder, as time allows:
