daily reading 48.4 (Nehemiah 9:13–15)

5-days-a-week through Daniel and other late OT books in 2023

Our opening prayer for this week:

Crown him the Lord of love, behold his hands and side,
Those wounds, yet visible above, in beauty glorified.
No angel in the sky can fully bear that sight,
But downward bends his burning eye at mysteries so bright.

Crown him the Lord of Heaven, enthroned in worlds above,
Crown him the King to whom is given the wondrous name of Love.
Crown him with many crowns, as thrones before him fall;
Crown him, you kings, with many crowns, for he is King of all.

Crown him the Lord of lords, who over all must reign,
Who once on earth, the incarnate Word, for everyone was slain,
Now lives in realms of light, where saints with angels sing
Their songs before him day and night, their God, Redeemer, King.

Crown him the Lord of years, the Potentate of time,
Creator of the rolling spheres, ineffably sublime.
All hail, Redeemer, hail! For you have died for me;
Your praise and glory shall not fail throughout eternity. Amen.

Nehemiah 9:13–15

  • "You came down on Mount Sinai, and spoke to them from heaven. You gave them impartial ordinances, reliable instructions, and good statutes and commands.
  • 14 "You revealed your holy Sabbath to them, and gave them commands, statutes, and instruction through your servant Moses.
  • 15 "You provided bread from heaven for their hunger; you brought them water from the rock for their thirst. You told them to go in and possess the land you had sworn to give them."

For yourself pray:

  • That God gives you life in the middle of death, and gives you hope in the middle of this world's wilderness

For others pray:

  • That God by his Spirit gives patience to others you know who are getting really frustrated with difficulties

A psalm to listen to and ponder, as time allows:
