daily reading 24.5 (Zechariah 6:9–13)

5-days-a-week through Daniel and other late OT books in 2023

Our opening prayer for this Easter week:

1      When peace like a river flows on in my way,
        when sorrows like sea billows roll–
        whatever my lot, you have taught me to say,
        it is well, it is well with my soul.
        Refrain: It is well with my soul,
        it is well, it is well with my soul.

2     Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
        let this blest assurance control,
        that Christ has regarded my helpless estate
        and has shed his own blood for my soul.
        Refrain: It is well with my soul,
        it is well, it is well with my soul.

3      My sin—oh, the bliss of this glorious thought—
        my sin, not in part, but the whole,
        is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more:
        praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!
        Refrain: It is well with my soul,
        it is well, it is well with my soul.

4      And, Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,
        the clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
        the trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend;
        even so, it is well with my soul.
        Refrain: It is well with my soul,
        it is well, it is well with my soul.

Zechariah 6:9–13

  • The word of the LORD came to me: 10 "Take an offering from the exiles, from Heldai, Tobijah, and Jedaiah, who have arrived from Babylon, and go that same day to the house of Josiah son of Zephaniah. 11 Take silver and gold, make a crown, and place it on the head of Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest.
  • 12 You are to tell him: This is what the LORD of Armies says: Here is a man whose name is Branch; he will branch out from his place and build the LORD's temple.
  • 13 Yes, he will build the LORD's temple; he will be clothed in splendor and will sit on his throne and rule. There will also be a priest on his throne, and there will be peaceful counsel between the two of them.
Helpful notes on Zechariah 6:9–13

For yourself pray:

  • That God in Christ crowns you with joy for all eternity as you reign with him as his royal priest

For others pray:

  • That God for the glory of his name and the good of his children ends the civil war in Somalia

A psalm to listen to, as time allows:
