daily reading 26.5 (Zechariah 8:14–17)

5-days-a-week through Daniel and other late OT books in 2023

Our opening prayer for this week:

My soul falls, and I stick to dust;
Lord, give me life divine.
From vain desires and every lust
Avert these eyes of mine.
I need the vigor of your grace
To speed me in your way,
So I don’t stumble in my race,
Or turn my feet astray.

When sore afflictions press me down,
I need enlivening powers;
Your word that I have rested on
Will help my heaviest hours.
Can anyone your might repeal?
Aren’t you the faithful God?
Will you not grant me warmer zeal
To run the heavenly road?

My Savior, I your precepts love.
I long to see your face.
And yet how slow my feelings move
Without enlivening grace!
I will esteem your gospel more,
And not neglect your word,
When I have felt its quickening power
To draw me to my Lord. Amen.

Zechariah 8:14–17

  • For the LORD of Armies says this: "As I resolved to treat you badly when your fathers provoked me to anger, and I did not relent," says the LORD of Armies, 15 "so I have resolved again in these days to do what is good to Jerusalem and the house of Judah. Don't be afraid.
  • 16 "These are the things you must do: Speak truth to one another; make true and sound decisions within your city gates. 17 Do not plot evil in your hearts against your neighbor, and do not love perjury, for I hate all this "— this is the LORD's declaration.
